Ender 3 Z Offset; How to adjust it!

To raise the nozzle to print on a surface, you’ll want to use negative values for the Z Offset, since this will shift the head upwards. Under the Build Plate Adhesion section of the print settings, you will find the “Z Offset” option. When movement first initiates along Z, the extruder moves momentarily below the bed (at which point the display indicates -75), then repositions above the bed (but displays -3.99) and fails. The extruder remains positioned just above the bed at what appears to be the normal auto-home position but the print cannot proceed and I have to shut down the printer to reboot. Z offset is the distance between the hot end and the Z home position on 3D printers. The most common reasons for adjusting the Z offset are to allow for the addition of a glass or thick bed material, and to fine tune the first layer for the best printing quality possible.

I don't want to go any further re-printing, so at the moment it's just an ornament. I manually tried to recalibrate the bed, the extruder's hight, set the Z hight in the Ender 3 settings and tried other tips from Google's search results but nothing helped, yet. I'm struggling with a final setup of the BLTouch I bought for my Ender3 Pro. After some other errors I updated my 4.2.7 board to Marlin 2.0.1 & BL Touch 1.1.1 and trying to automatically level the bed leaves me with a "Home Z first" error. You can send G-code commands using a G-code terminal to adjust the Z offset. Go back to the previous menu and this time select 0.1mm and adjust the nozzle slightly until there is barely friction between the nozzle and the piece of paper (the total number you get, E.g., -2.13mm, will be your offset). As for the Z homing, you have to adjust the bed height ("bed leveling") via the 4 wheels under the corners of the bed to bring it to the right height. If you can't get it below the nozzle with the wheels all the way tightened, your Z endstop switch must be installed incorrectly. The Ender 3's Z endstop bracket is supposed to fit against the corner of the aluminum extrusion just below it so that it doesn't need adjustment, but it's possible to mount it incorrectly higher. This is a bad idea because if it loosens it can move. It might also be possible to incorrectly install it lower, in which case it would be misaligned because the machine screws couldn't be tightened down all the way.
As for actual bed height adjustment/leveling, there are lots of good guides to that and I won't try to reproduce/improve on them here. The "sheet of paper" method is very good. I did this morning and I came across your post. Idk if it will work for you, but I manually pushed the extruder bar all the way up and all the way down till it stopped. Start by loosening up the bed leveling knobs about halfway, don’t loosen them up too much. The Ender 3 comes with a Limit Switch that is strategically placed along each axis, and they’re used to prevent the machine from overextending and causing damage to the print bed and other components. There are many reasons to calibrate the Z offset on an Ender 3, such as leveling the bed properly, adding a glass sheet to the bed, printing more complicated models, and even printing on top of another object. Using a Z offset will allow you to get better adhesion on the first layers, print on a thicker bed, print on top of another object, and even level the bed properly. Having paid for an Ender-3 Max, and BL Touch and CR Touch, at this point I just have a heap of useless metal and I’m halfway through a project. To remove the filament jam, I heated the extruder, took off the extruder fans, took off the Bowden tube and extracted the filament. No wires were pinched and the Z-Azis connector is not connected.
After fixing a filament jam, where I had to take off the Bowden tube to get the filament out, my printer is getting the “Z home first” error and the Z axis is refusing to move down, it will only move up. I have tried re-flashing the software after deleting the EEPROM file and every option I can think of to move the Z axis, all to no avail. The printer was printing fine before this problem. Calibrating the Z offset directly from the firmware is the best and easiest way to do it since the settings will be saved directly to the printer, which means that you do it once and you’re done, and this also allows you to do it more precisely and to fine tune as needed.

My Ender-3 had been printing fine until the Z screw fell out of position and the Z stop fell off. I reinstalled the parts but now the printer won’t auto-home. When I initiate a print, the X and Y positions auto-home to 0 but the Z position first displays -75 then -3.99 and then everything stops.
